Do you think they are just playing the odds thing, or could I be giving that impression somehow?

My guess: They're playing the numbers game.

What I have discovered is that when many people live a life that is quite good in many ways...working hard....abundancy is there....and have a decent moral code with ethics and integrity thrown in the pot, there are some who resent it.

People can have all those things and not the "abundancy" and suffer the same resentment within their world, as well.
Often to the extreme without the resources "abundancy" offers.

And all of the above does not guarantee that abundancy will follow. A myth perpetuated by those for whom it has.
