Christmas gifts

Christmas gifts

Postby thebugisback » 01 Sep 2010, 17:56

I thought this would be a good time to start sharing things we like to make for gifts. I'd love to see some of your ideas and try them. Here are just 2 of mine.

Wine Jelly

2 Cups wine
3 1/4 cups sugar
1 pkg liquid pectin

Bring water and sugar to full rolling boil. Stir in pectin. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Skim off foam and put into clean, sterilized jelly jars. Store in refrigerator.

Very simple, very pretty and nice flavor.

****

Frangos (homemade version of popular candy in Washington state, USA)

2 cups chocolate chips (be creative - you can use milk, semi sweet or white chocolate)
1 cube butter or margarine
1 egg
2 tsp peppermint extract (or other flavors you enjoy. I will leave out the extract and use instant coffee, tbsp of Bailys Irish cream, grand mariner, etc)
2 cups powered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Melt chips. Whip butter, then add the rest of the ingredients. Put on waxed papered.

Great idea Bug!

What's a cube of butter - is it 1/4 cup?

What does one eat with wine jelly? Is it a condiment for meat?

We do, well my daughter, really, a fair amount of Christmas baking/candies, so I'll post some stuff later.
Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I agree, Bug!

Maybe people other than my immediate family will actually receive Solstice gifts this year... :?

I suck at baking...lol..so, I don't think anyone wants any of my recipes... ( I keep trying, though...)

The thing about giving homemade gifts...I actually don't have any talent at any of the things that would be good choices...and on the several occasions I tried it...the receivers weren't very impressed... ..

But, I look forward to seeing what everyone has to share...

Sorry, better late than never?

What's a cube of butter - is it 1/4 cup?

A cube of butter is a whopping 1/2 cup.

What does one eat with wine jelly? Is it a condiment for meat?

You can eat it with anything you'd put jelly on. It's wonderful on a Sunday morning with coffee and toast. It's good with peanut butter. I've never tried it with meat, but bet it would be nice. Go ahead and experiment.

I was thinking of giant orange cinnamon rolls for this Christmas.
Maybe with an orange glaze.
I'll put raisins in my dad's.
I am weary of all the pies, cakes, candies, and cookies.

Last year a gentleman brought me hand made crab rangoon for Christmas.
It was delectable! We fried it together.

True story!

Two years ago, a friend of mine had a mold of his c0ck and balls made [his c0ck was fully erect]. Then he had it bronzed and mounted as a door knocker. When his wife opened her present, she smiled, but then she said..."It's lovely, but a little small!"

That's ok. I just plan early to be able to plan my budget and have time to try new ideas.

These are some great ideas! I love sloe gin, and I always make some extra to give away to my closest friends. They seem to like it, and if they don’t then they’re good at hiding it. What you can also do is you can use the sloes that are left over after you had all your gin (hiccup ) and turn them into sloe gin cookies. Makes a great gift as well.
