I met a lovely lady recently (Alright, I already
knew her age, as it was through POF), but we talked about David Bowie, and Roxy music, and various Motown singles, and how we used to hang out when we were teenagers.
So I would probably have been able to tell from the conversation that she was approximately my age (55), but had she been ten years younger, she may have been 'into' Spandau Ballet, or Culture Club....
The only people who can "relate" to what it feels like to be 55, are other 55 year olds.
When I first joined POF., I started a thread about "Age Differences", in which I got savaged..

for
daring to suggest that 10 years younger was a suitable age gap, -they said "you're not so hot, I'd rate you at 3/10!" and "Who do you think you are..?"
I really don't think it's all that important, I think attraction and/or "comfort" are much more important, and that has to work 'both ways'.
When it comes down to it, as long as the two people concerned are happy and attracted to each other, then their ages, or age differences are nobody's business.
Having said that, "older men" (eg MY age) dating 16 year-olds, even though it's 'legal', wouldn't be my choice, but "each to their own" as they say....
