Some people have too many hang ups..Life is too short! just live it ffs

I agree,I don't see any reason to not answer the question either, but it is her right to answer that question in the correct setting and not be subject to ridicule by people she does not know just because she refused to answer it at that time.
You do look good for your age storm.

Hanna, I don't think I said age should be a secret. You may think it is goofy to not want to tell your age, but to some it is a serious invasion of privacy. That's their prerogative. I don't think it was so much about age being one of those personal questions you ask in private, but more about him continuing to ask. You don't intentionally put people in an uncomfortable situation. I was always taught that good manners do not cost you anything to exercise, but the lack of them may cost you dearly further down the road. He, unfortunately learned that this is true.

Stress, we weren't making fun of her, but were trying to get the subject directed away from the age thing by using humor. She was doing this also. But he was being somewhat of a swampdonkey. Now he is singing the blues.

When you have a pretty good idea of their age group, I don't think it is necessary to ask. Personally, I have no idea why an exact age instead of a guesstimate would be so important.

I'm 120

For me, I like to know...
But only because I feel that someone nearer my age will be able to reminisce with me about music and fashions, and major events.
I feel that I can relate better, to someone my own age.
It would be very nice to be 'hooked-up' with a younger woman, but their nostalgia would be for eras which I consider to be quite recent.
It always makes me laugh when I hear adverts for albums from "the 90's" referred to as "Old School" <--- see, I'm laughing.
He shouldn't have asked her "in public", it's none of anyone else's business IMO
I like to know before the first meet.

Jo....they met IRL & had been on three dates, so he had a pretty good idea of her age, give or take a few years. So is it still necessary to to know her exact age? Why? What difference would it make?

I met a lovely lady recently (Alright, I already knew her age, as it was through POF), but we talked about David Bowie, and Roxy music, and various Motown singles, and how we used to hang out when we were teenagers.
So I would probably have been able to tell from the conversation that she was approximately my age (55), but had she been ten years younger, she may have been 'into' Spandau Ballet, or Culture Club.... :?
The only people who can "relate" to what it feels like to be 55, are other 55 year olds.

When I first joined POF., I started a thread about "Age Differences", in which I got savaged.. for daring to suggest that 10 years younger was a suitable age gap, -they said "you're not so hot, I'd rate you at 3/10!" and "Who do you think you are..?"
I really don't think it's all that important, I think attraction and/or "comfort" are much more important, and that has to work 'both ways'.
When it comes down to it, as long as the two people concerned are happy and attracted to each other, then their ages, or age differences are nobody's business.
Having said that, "older men" (eg MY age) dating 16 year-olds, even though it's 'legal', wouldn't be my choice, but "each to their own" as they say.... :?

.
i think i am the second-oldest person on this site, even beating Jo van, and no, i have absolutely no worries about being asked my age. As a colleague said just this lunchtime:

"i am at an age where i don't worry that i haven't been to the latest-fashion store this week, i just worry that this week's fashion hasn't been brought out of the box i put it in the last time it stopped being fashionable."

:)

Age is a number and no big deal - unless you're 47 and someone has been ribbing you lately about how you are nearly at the big 5-0...

well, I am 52! And I have all the scars to prove it! Age doesn't mean a whole lot to me, other than experience! Telling people how old I am isn't a big deal to me. I'm proud of every scar and every wrinkle, cause I've worked damn hard to get them!!

Well, now I wanna know!

I guess I must be stuck being one of the younger people on this, even though I know for sure I am not the youngest.

I am 37.
I am a member of this site, just like you are.
