Well if we're talking pass-out paralytic booze mixtures: please allow me the indulgence of posting one of my favourite drink recipes. i've never tried it but the wording is just so delightful!

Macerate strawberries, raspberries, grapes, peaches, nectarines, zest of orange and lemon with borage and cucumber peel in 1 bottle of brandy, 1 bottle of Curacao, and two bottles of claret all day on ice.

When the guests arrive add two bottles of Champagne, well iced.

Carriages and ambulances at midnight.

In case you're wondering, "Carriages at xx time" was the standard ending to polite invitations once, so you knew you had your transport arriving to take you home and the horses didn't have to stand around too long in the street, in the days before you could 'phone for a taxi. It also meant the hostess didn't have to worry about the guest from hell she couldn't get rid of!

i think that is a phrase ripe for a comeback.

^^^mmmmm, I'd like just one, then a slow walk home with a cool breeze in the air.
