We live in a time where we are bombarded with looking youthful.

Name me a time, when youthfulness was not attractive...

would it be, by chance, ever since paedophilia became a crime?

I have had people ask me personal things in front of others and didn't appreciate it; deflection is the answer to that. My age isn't something I consider intrusive, but the manner of asking a question certainly reveals something about the asker. In the past if I haven't wanted to answer something, I've asked if xyz is important to them and led the conversation into the why rather than the what. I'd hope I'd dump him immediately for being gauche and suspect him of having issues. I'd *likely* hang about for longer than I ought to to give him time to prove he is gauche and has issues. And I'd wish I had the presence of mind to ask him about the size of his c0ck in front of his friends. LMAO@that thought!
Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

You weren't satisfied to stop at statutory rape to try and make your point?...

I don't know about that....old manners never go out of style. Maybe if more people remembered the manners their nana taught them, the world would be a better place, much kinder place. I live in the deep South we say yes ma'am & no sir & we always hold down our skirt in the wind instead of our hair.

And I don't know about that. Maybe it's a regional/ethnic thing. I only knew one of my "nanas," but she never taught that "a lady" should be secretive about her age.

Though, now that I think about it, I guess she did teach me to respect to other people's sensibilities and even things we consider odd. I guess because I think it's goofy to be self-conscious about something as innoculous as age, I can't quite wrap my head around it.

I answered your question with a question..it's against the rules that you would ask a totally meaningless and ridiculous question in response..

I'm going to have do to a 'Page Turner' on you and ask "Wot?"

Clarify..I dare you!!

Sounds like she just didn't like being the centre of attention on a new'ish date infront of a room full of strangers. Some people just don't like to have the spotlight on them. Me personally I don't give a damn. I'm 41 and hav no problem with anyone knowing that - of course I do insist that my children tell everyone that I am 21. One of my children plays the game and tells everyone I am 21 whereas the other 2 say 'no mummy, you're 41' Bet you can see which of them I like the most eh hahahahahaahahahahahaahhah

dotcom wrote:Last night a group of us met for dinner & drinks. One of the guys brought a new female he has been dating. I think this was their third date. While she was away from the table, he said he didn't know her age and was going to ask when she returned.

Several said not to, because age can be a sensitive subject & should be asked in private. My guy said she looked to be our age group, between 45 & 50, so why bother to ask. Someone wondered when it became appropriate to ask a lady her age. The majority said don't do it.

He asked anyway. She chuckled & said she wasn't a 70 year old with a great tuck & roll job if that is what he was worried about. Pretty funny come back. He kept asking & insisting on knowing her exact age, he even wanted to see her ID. It could have gotten out of hand but we kept adding humor to it & making funny remarks, she handled it well.

After they left we all made bets on whether she would dump him or not. She did! She said she had no desire to date someone that would ask such a personal question in front of a group of strangers. She said she was 47 & had no problem saying so but she wondered when it became acceptable to ask a lady her age. He was shocked!

In reality is knowing someones exact age all that important? Isn't just knowing their approximate age good enough? A few years here or there can't make that much of a difference or can it?

We live in a time where we are bombarded with looking youthful. Just about every advertisement has to do with ways to look more younger, act younger, dress younger, eat this or that to be younger, drink this or that, use this product, use that product & on & on. We are obsessed with being young.

Age can be a very touchy subject, we saw that in the udder forums. It was a huge deal, with numerous threads about people lying when it comes to their age or dumping someone because the person wasn't truthful by just a few years. I really don't think people that fudge a few years on their age are just big liars. It's more like it is almost embarrassing to be a certain age & to have to admit it.

Is knowing someones exact age all that important, especially if you meet them IRL where you can pretty well determine how old a person is just by looking? Does it bother you if someone asks how old you are?

I think that the lady seems pretty astute at working out a persons personality and if it suits hers. She probably prefers the company of a partner who's social skills extends to knowing what to ask/say and when to drop a subject once it should be obvious is not up for discussion in that setting. She may also not have taken kindly to his friends fueling the fire when they "kept adding humor to it & making funny remarks" instead of tactfully helping a stranger to everyone out of her uncomfortable position by changing the subject or telling him to drop it.

I can not see what the problem is when someone asks your age..I am comfortable in my own skin, I personally think I look good for my age 41!..
