with a tear in my eye absorbed by my soul
I cannot yet shed another
the fear of knowing once I start
I will not stop keeps me grounded
thinking happier thoughts of you instead
I swallow my memories
like a some home made potion they return
reminding me you are here
inside me forever
and in our children every time I see
that look of yours in their eyes
that is part of you

i swallow my memories
like a shot of bourbon
left on the night table
consumed in the morning
breakfast of champions

left on the night table
my glasses, keys, and watch,
a small old family photo
that some how survived,
many worn by years
now simply ashes,
like some in the fire place,
that will become as one
with the earth again,
mixing in the ground

Now simply ashes
Where once there was breath
Now just a memory
Life lost in death

Now simply ashes
The spirit run free
Now simply everywhere
In all I can see

Simply everywhere
There is nothing
In all I see
The spirit runs free

Thoughtful solitude
Sitting alone
Yearning disconnected
Driven by paternal duty

Gray skies
Frozen rain
Ashen snowbanks
Blackened from exhaustion

Cracked birch trees
By the thousands
Ice formations
On the escarpments

Leafless, joyless
Deathly curious
Joy in this landscape
A human impossibility

Clandestine cannibals
Sucking the life from humanity
Walk forever this ashen road
To deliver Hope to tomorrow

random thoughts...see where they take me...

grey skies
soothing my eyes
a gentle breeze
blowing wet tree leaves
rain came through
some wind too
cooling the sultry summer air
bringing fresh energy everywhere...

door wide open
cats sleep on my feet
feels good to not feel the heat
a saturday morning
despite all the warning
the hurricane never hit
no broken branches
not one little bit...

car is safe
parked under a canopy
of healthy trees
not so tall
to risk a fall
and I am safe
and dry and free
at least momentarilly...

a saturday morning
birds are calling
the storm is over
i feel so sleepy
exhausing week
feeling weak
must pick up and endure
soon to go do private care....

for one who's truly
an inspiration
for one who's life had
just half begun
when on a fateful night
a storm not so unlike
the one last night
she was driving in
her original convertible beetle
and a tree's branch had fallen
blocking her path
swerving to avoid it
her car with her did crash....

waking up days later
her life she found had been spared
yet she was to lose mobility
with paralysis...mostly...
now twenty years passed
has no regret for any of it
though the paralysis did last
and for all who know her
she brings great inspiration
for she is the epitome
of compassion and wisdom
However long the night, the dawn will break.

the trees, as in symmetry,
lifted her up with their thirsty roots,
bent down around her,
held her, blessing
her hair with their fragrances.
the birds danced through them,
through the yellowing leaves
and her hair lit by the sun.

she, too, sent roots into the earth.
her arms became limbs
whirling in the air,
her eyes became birds
dancing in her face.
and the drums of the earth
and her heart echoed
from the clouds.

her eyes became birds (OMG- what a line!)
flying away blindly
holding the mark
in the migration
of holding patterns
in a changing world
with no where to land
circling endlessly
floating away

floating away into a different place no one knows but me
the home inside myself I never share,
just the way I like it~
all my favorite people come to visit often
there is an endless supply of laughter,
and the lights are always on
so I can find my way even in the dark,
there is never hunger or pain
only abundant love,
with whipped cream and cherries on top
so the fun never ends...

'with whipped cream and cherries on top'
childhood phrase not heard for centuries
slight recall went with promises...or
begging with the saying 'pretty please'....

whipped cream with a cherry on top
meant to be a special treat
but marachino cherries
always seemed so sickly sweet....
However long the night, the dawn will break.
