Particularly at 1:35. Innocuous-looking bait, but do take note of the hooks...

I think that input needs to come from all sides (posters and moderators).

I think that these rules:

Rule 1)Privacy
Do not post sensitive information: i.e. Phone numbers and home addresses.

Rule 2) Conduct
No insults or slanderous libel. Be nice to each other. We reserve the right to edit abusive insults out of your posts. Do not post any content about another user that could be considered untrue, slanderous libel or defamation of character.

Rule 3)Trolling
No trouble making, people who persistently try to cause arguments by means of trolling will be contacted by a moderator.

...are rules that are pretty clear to me.

But where is it broken?

MZ

I'll tell you where.

First things, first.

One of the most sociopathic, and pathologically lying trolls I've ever seen on any internet forum, made this place their home, after finally getting IP blocked entirely from POF, and walked into a forum amongst strangers, who hadn't a clue, about the wolf in sheep's clothing, that she was, and APPEARED to be 'normal'. Even 'pleasant'.

She was even so bold as to and start a "poor me, the victim" thread (that was here for months and months, and thousands of views) where she posted even more outright LIES about NUMEROUS members she loathed from POF, slandering them openly and posting OUTRIGHT lies about WHO they were, and WHAT they were.

That's how this site became known to me.
Many of my POF friends, and even some people who weren't, wrote me on POF to tell me about this person, and her very malicious LIES, PUBLIC SLANDER and DEFAMATION.

She's managed to avoid getting what she deserves, which is nothing short of a COMPLETE ban, IP block and to have her complete history erased.

You want to make this place better?

Set an example, with the worst possible offender that any site could possibly imagine.

Get rid of the DISEASE that lives here.

Why is this FREAK allowed to still be here?
You got rid of her thread, but left her here.
That's like putting a band aid over a snakebite.

You need to disinfect this place.

It shouldn't be a host for disturbed individuals who have not ONE ounce of decency, scruples, and will stop at nothing to be malicious and vengeful.

The sight of this person on here, makes my skin crawl, everytime I see her mug, on here.

Till then, any and all talk of 'rules' and 'decency', go in one ear, and out the other with me.

First things, first.

Establish integrity first.

Expect compliance, second.
Like POF but without silly rules....... Let's see, shall we?

The trouble with trouble is, it usually starts out as fun...

Are you talking about the rules or the enforcement of such? Two different things...the rules on pof have always been clear. The rules on this site seem clear to me. Enforcement is subject to interpretation...hence one of the reasons why I started this thread. This thread was an attempt to answer why some posts were getting deleted. To address where the breakdown in communication was occurring.

The application/enforcement of rules which could be widely interpreted depending upon the discretion of the practising mod is what I am talking about...the fact that it was very difficult to understand how exactly to 'play' within those rules - both the written rules and the interpretation of those rules at the discretion of a mod and how 'punishment' is applied and to whom is disparate but should never be at all...that fault would lay not at the user's feet but at the feet of the familiar bad moderation which is biased completely.

As for what constitutes an insult...I would say the ultimate insult is a bare-faced lie, you know, when someone trusts in their faith in you but you return that trust by insulting their intelligence - it's not nice, it's really frustrating and annoying to realise you've been abused...your trust, faith and to know that that someone who pays such great lip service to integrity and honesty.. and expects you to behave a certain way according to their expectations of you doesn't actually practise what they preach!!

I think calling someone a name constitutes as an insult. If you have not done this then feel free to move on with a clear conscience and know that you must be a victim.

Don't be so silly.. don't dare treat me like an idiot

I would imagine that if someone feels insulted they would afford the courtesy to the insulter of informing them why they feel that way..but I think that would incur a black mark against your name on the POF forums because you shouldn't have oughtn't to have responded to a flamebaiter or to have fed a troll.

I think freedom of speech needs to be exercised in such a way that victims are allowed their right to reply without being accused of being in the wrong for defending themselves.

We are not on pof. We are on this site. More freedom requires more self-moderation. What is your reason for being here?

I'm far more interested in learning why you think I post on here...that was an interesting question of yours..perhaps you believe my main interest in posting on here is to troll????

The last person I actively insulted was Saddle_Tramp...but ..incredibly (to me) I've been accused of being insulting merely because I didn't agree with someone else e.g. Moonbat, I didn't agree with that fake because I knew they weren't speaking the truth and I knew in my heart they didn't understand where I was coming from..

They didn't understand where you were coming from so they weren't speaking to your subjective truth and that makes them a fake? I think calling someone a "fake" is an insult...how did you feel when you were accused of being a sock-puppet?

I thought it was ridiculous that I was called a 'sock-puppet'..it was absolutely ludicrous and laughable...and I was called one, as you were by the impossibly paranoid ST...how did you feel about it yourself?

Moonbat pretended to know more about me about how I should feel...it smacked of insincerity to me that he/she/they would insist in doing so...what was that all about...his posting behaviour is reminiscent of some poster who doesn't actually care to be sensitive..the posts were agenda-ridden.

I was also recently accused of deliberately trolling someone (his words) all the time, when such an action on my part would have genuinely been the furthest thing from my mind...

I think the definition of trolling needs to be clarified.

Me too...all I know so far is that a troll is not a noun, it's a verb!!

Maybe some people on here want us to conform too much to a kind of behaviour which goes against our actual morals...is that fair of them?

Are you saying you have an objection to the rules? Which ones?

Is that what I was saying?

There's something very messed up going on on this forum right now and it's not very nice to witness according to this author's point of view.

And what is that "something"?

MZ

People being in a position of relative power taking the piss....what did you think I meant?

Humph kindly posted a link in his post at the top of page two of this thread. It contains this:

troll v., n.
1. [From the Usenet group alt.folklore.urban] To utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable responses or flames; or, the post itself. Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies" which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling", a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of newbies and flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than they already do, while subtly conveying to the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it.

2. An individual who chronically trolls in sense 1; regularly posts specious arguments, flames or personal attacks to a newsgroup, discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion. Trolls are recognizable by the fact that they have no real interest in learning about the topic at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait. Like the ugly creatures they are named after, they exhibit no redeeming characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form of life on the net, as in, "Oh, ignore him, he's just a troll."

3. [Berkeley] Computer lab monitor. A popular campus job for CS students. Duties include helping newbies and ensuring that lab policies are followed. Probably so-called because it involves lurking in dark cavelike corners.

Some people claim that the troll (sense 1) is properly a narrower category than flame bait, that a troll is categorized by containing some assertion that is wrong but not overtly controversial.

It goes on...

Humph prefers to use "troll" as a verb, but the definition he supplied shows it can also be a noun. (i didn't post the youtube clip on this page without reason. :) )

Does that help?

If you think about it, just a little bit...

When the rules address (by explicit definition, interpretation and enforcement) the verb, ...the noun is immaterial.

Again, it all boils down to the Admin's preference, does he want a troll site, or a forum?

That simple.

Admin:

It's best to ignore any post on this thread that is self-serving by context (It's easy, you can tell if you read them), and really, ...just consider those that consider the site.
