It's rough, I like hand sewning, can't smoke and sew at the same time, you get to look at all the pretty colors and shapes, and you end up with something. If those traditionally girly things (knitting etc) aren't up your alley, do crosswords, make a model, write a book, but yes, find something you like that keeps your hands occupied and your brain busy. Yes, I can think of something else that can do that, but we're talking 24 hours a day here. ;)

It does get better.

Have you seen the " Is this art or art for arts sake" thread in here? You may want to post a few of your own?

So Ratty how is your not smoking doing? I smoked years ago quitting was extremely easy for me. Then about 3 years ago because of stress I started smoking again. I tried champix. It was horrible! I had out of body experiences, lol, but not really funny. When fully wake I would go into a dream state & do/say crazy things. I had horrible nightmares & began walking in my sleep. One day my sister was visiting me, we were sitting on the sofa chatting. She said I started screaming, "Dale, call me, oh gawd would you please answer your phone", then I took off running down the street. The only thing I remember is standing in front of Dale's house thinking it was on fire & I had been trying to call him but he wouldn't answer the phone or call me back. Just about every night I had the same nightmare over & over again, each time I would see Dale's house on fire, I'd call him, he would not answer so I'd take off running out the door. I would wake up in front of his home confused as to what was going on.
I didn't realize it was the champix so I went to a psychiatrist, he started telling me I was a rare case very few people have actual split personalities & he'd like to spend time analysing me & do a case study on me, blah, blah, blah! I was really concerned & scared thinking I was going to spend the rest of my life in & out of mental hospitals. That old movie The Snake Pit kept playing over & over again in my head, I just knew I was going to end up being committed.
During one of my "out of body" episodes I fell & broke my nose. I went to my regular doctor when I told her what had happened & about the psychiatrist analyses she just roared with laughter. She said that friggin old fool (referring to the psychiatrist) knows dam good & well it is a side affect of champix & he also knows there is no such thing as split personalities. She said some doctors will do just about anything to get famous.
Anyway, long story short I started chewing the nicorette gum & carried a straw. I would suck on the straw, or play with it, pretend it was a cigarette. It worked for me.
As for champix, oh hell no I would never recommend it! Except for maybe a recreational drug. :D

^^^wow dotcom.....I have been of the belief some pharmaceutical drugs can have adverse side effects far more dangerous
than the health issue(s) for which they are designed and prescribed....

your experience definitely confirms this and how some doctors will apparently and purposefully not inform the patient what is happening....

pretty horrifying, really.

oh....editing to add to annabelle....I exercise regularly also and have been nearly all my life in the form of dance - the last 7 or so doing
african dance classes, rehearsals and performances....and strangely, the asthma first showed up in the middle of an african class and that is
when I realized I had a problem that got gradually worse until I finally got onto this 'singulair', which is specifically designed for exercise induced asthma...

see, as Zangie was just trying to point out....what works for one does not work for all and I know you're just sharing what worked for you,
but please honour everyone has their path and each needs to be respected (knowing that's not what you meant, but, for me, your words to her
sounded like they did not understand her point, that's all).
However long the night, the dawn will break.

I've been using the e-cigarette. I miss the smoke. It works for me. I refuse to look up the health dangers on it because I am paranoid enough as it is.

There are just times and days you have to ask yourself what have I become, what have I done, and how did I get this way?
