Where'd the Pie People Go?

Where'd the Pie People Go?

Postby 1954 » 25 Jul 2010, 00:45

Last year, I communicated with a fellow from Thunder Bay, Ontario. Learned how to make an easy pie crust from scratch, but...
I cheated and made my very old Dad do it for me... This is a good thing folks.

I prefer recipes without crust, why waist time, just zone into the fillings.

What, like an apple crumble, or something like that?
Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

People I know that make a great crust are proud of it and it gives them great joy to be asked to make one. They twinkle at the chance to be superior, secure we'd never do it as well. It is a good thing to let people show off the skills they developed while younger generations are busy typing. :D

Me, I'll make a cobbler.

I grew up in a house where women were judged by their cooking. We were all very proud of our dinners and desserts. I don't ever remember one crust being better than another. Granny always used lard for her crusts. I switched to pills bury pre-made crusts. Nobody is going to eat the crust anyway.

I just realized I haven't made a pie since Christmas.

There are just times and days you have to ask yourself what have I become, what have I done, and how did I get this way?

I decided to make a steak and mushroom pie the other night..Stood there with the mixing bowel thinking

'blimey I ain't do this for a few years'

So I made the pastry..then realised I am making this huge pie for just my daughter..
So decided to make individual pies..
So now I am left with all this extra pastry that's been sitting in my fridge over night..
With all good intentions I was going to make an apple pie for after Sunday Dinner..
But with the boys not at home, my daughter is mortified if I put desserts in front of her and me on a gluten free crap sh*t diet.. I am kinda thinking this pastry is going to go a horrid shade of green :(

However on the upside my sons are home on leave next week..So I can play Fanny Cradock for a whole week :D

Storm, I bet you make the best crust...and if it was filled with coconut creme I'd volunteer to test. Nothing like homemade, natural ingredient pie. Chemical pie/deserts with fake sugar shiit.
